BUBBA - Chemo Fish
Bubba was donated to the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago Illinois in 1987. The fish measured approx ten inches long and was a Queensland grouper.
Living in the 'Wild reef' exhibit he grew to wiegh 154 pounds.
In 2001 an unusual growth formed on his forehead and vets were called in. The lump was found to be malignant and Bubba underwent chemotherapy. Believed to be the first fish treated with chemo Bubba soon became known as the 'Super Grouper'. He proved a popular attraction with both children visitors and cancer sufferers alike.
He eventually died of old age in 2006.
