AH MENG - Orangutan
Ah Meng was a female Orangutan who became the icon of Singapore Tourism.
She was kept as a pet until she was eleven years old and then given a home at Singapore Zoo. Because she had been a pet she was more docile in the company of humans and met many foriegn dignateries and celebrities including Prince Phillip the Duke of Edinburgh and Michael Jackson.
Pictures of her were used worlwide to promote Singapore and she recieved a certificate and a stack of bananas for being a "Special Tourism Ambassador"
