LAIKA - Dog Astronaut
The first Earthling to orbit the Earth.
She paved the way for Spaceflight.
A Russian dog born in 1954.
She was trained as an astronaut and selected to be the first to travel through Space
The Russians launched their spaceship with Laika on board on the 3rd November 1957.
Although she died a few hours after the launch due to the craft over-heating her contribution to space flight was paramount.
On April 11th 2008 the Russians unveiled a monument to her
